[July 3, 2024] Digital IP entertainment company IPX (formerly LINE FRIENDS) successfully held the “2024 IPX SUMMIT” in Shibuya, Japan on the 2nd, and unveiled a new IP business strategy and roadmap in Japan with 270 local license and collaboration partners attending. IPX officially announced a new IP business plan that is popular in Japan, such as webtoons and games, and announced a new leap forward in the Japanese market, which is the starting point for the birth of LINE FRIENDS original characters, by introducing IP portfolios of global targets such as trendy promising domestic IPs and K-pop artist IPs.

First, IPX collaborates with “Genshin Impact (Genshin Impact)” developed by the global game company HoyoVerse (HoyoVerse), which has recorded more than 100 million monthly global users and is gaining great popularity in Japan, to develop a global IP business including Korea and Japan. We are planning to introduce a new miniaturized IP by adding IPX's creative creativity to the original original IP, and in Japan, we are strengthening contacts with Japanese fans through localization strategies such as official pop-ups and license partnerships. In addition, the popular e-manga service “LINE Manga,” which has the highest cumulative number of manga app downloads in Japan, is also planning to launch an IP business in Japan, such as the popular webtoon mercenary and Empress Remarried.

Earlier, on the 26th of last month, IPX opened “LINE FRIENDS SQUARE SHIBUYA” in Shibuya, Tokyo, the center of fashion, entertainment, and culture trends, and introduced a new regular store where Japanese fans and international tourists can enjoy various globally popular IPs. In particular, IPX simultaneously opened “Supernatural POP-UP” by Newgins, which is developing an official IP product business, and pre-order for the first day's pop-up was closed in less than 5 minutes, continuing the domestic Nugins pop-up box office in Japan. In addition to Newjeans, IPX plans to showcase K-pop artist IP businesses that have become a global trend, such as Ive, (female) children, and Zero Base One, in Japan.

In addition, IPX will expand the local fandom by showcasing promising domestic small and medium-sized IPs such as the globally popular IP Minini (minini), JOGUMAN (JOGUMAN), DINOTAENG (DINOTAENG), and MONAMEHEE (MONAMEHEE) to Japan. IPX plans to expand various licensing opportunities and content businesses that can appeal to Japanese consumers based on years of global IP business know-how and differentiated creative capabilities.

Meanwhile, IPX first started a licensing business in Japan in 2012, and has collaborated with more than 300 famous Japanese brands including Coca-Cola Japan, Suntory, Bandai, Kirin, Loft, and Lawson Entertainment. In particular, since LINE FRIENDS Japan was established in 2017, the total IP transaction volume in Japan recorded an average annual growth rate of 29% until 2023, and is developing a stable IP business.

An IPX official said, “It was the first summit held in Japan, the birthplace of IPX's original character LINE FRIENDS, and introduced the most popular new game, webtoon, and K-Pop related IP lineup in Asia, including BT21, to Japanese partners that have shown trust over a long period of time, and we were able to confirm the high expectations of our partners for the Japanese IP business to develop in the future,” and “Based on the unrivaled creative capabilities we have built up in the character IP field for over 10 years and the expertise we have built up through the global IP business, we are continuing to create a differentiated IP success formula from others. We will make it a year that captivates the global market.”

Meanwhile, “IPX SUMMIT” is a place where IPX announces major business results and plans to overseas licensees and partners every year starting in 2019. Last year, the IPX SUMMIT was held in Shanghai, China, and 700 major Chinese licensees and stakeholders, including Tencent (Tencent), bilibili (Tencent), TikTok (TikTok), and Miniso (miniso), attended the largest event ever.
